Heaton is one of the most versatile areas in Newcastle, offering many ways of spending your time: from student-friendly pubs to dainty cafes and relaxing green areas, there are options for everyone:
• Pubs & Bars: The Chillingham Arms, Northumberland Hussars and Corner House are popular pubs in Heaton where you can relax and get a genuine local feel.
• Cafes & Restaurants: Eating great food on a budget is not a problem in Heaton, because there are lots of takeaways on Chillingham Road. The Butterfly Cabinet, Heaton Road, is a popular local restaurant, famous for its delicious buttermilk pancakes. There are massive queues here every weekend for breakfast and lunch. Other options include Cafe Spice, Naked Deli, Starks Kitchen, and Khans (a bring-your-own-booze Indian restaurant). Heaton is a very dynamic area and new cafes are open all the time.
• Food/Shops: If you want to do the groceries, you can go to Tesco and local greengrocers on Chillingham Road. There is a large Sainsburys on Etherstone Avenue in High Heaton and Morrisons in nearby Byker.
• Other things to do: Heaton Park is one of the most popular attractions in the area. Its green areas are perfect for when you want to go for a relaxing walk or a bit of people watching, sunbathing or even play a game of tennis or basketball on one of the sports courts.
