Things to do in Sandyford
Sandyford is mostly a student community, so there are plenty of fun ways to spend your time here. And, with lower rent and living costs, it’s also a great place to hang out on a budget.
• Pubs & Bars: Sandyford excels at old, traditional style pubs such as The Bluebell, The Collingwood Arms or The Northumberland Hussar in nearby Heaton. Despite their vintage look, these pubs have been revamped and they are very popular among students.
• Cafes & Restaurants: Sandyford offers a nice combination of local and international cuisine. Starbeck Fish & Chips is a top choice for a typical British meal, but if you prefer something different, you can try Mascalzone or Harrissa Café, which serve tasty Italian and Mediterranean food and drinks.
• Food Shops: Nisa Local on Sandyford Road is a good destination for your daily shopping needs, there is a Tesco Express on Stoddart Street and a few other small convenience stores in the area. The closest large supermarket is Morrisons in Byker, a 15-20 minutes’ walk depending on where in Sandyford you start from.
